What it is and what it's used for
AIP alcohol pearl inks are highly concentrated liquid pigments with a pearlescent component. They create effects of depth and gloss in clear casting resin, ideal for jewellery, decorations, small castings and surface accents on resin paintings and clocks.
How to use
- Dropper application – drop directly into fresh (still liquid) resin for spatial spills and pearlescent traces.
- On the surface – apply to a fully or partially cured surface for maps, gradients and fine pearlescent notches.
- Layering – combine multiple shades in thin layers for depth; always allow the previous layer to react partially.
- Effect modelling – gently work with hot air or a straw to direct spills; do not overheat the resin.
Dosage and compatibility
- Inks are very concentrated – start with 1–3 drops per smaller volume and add gradually.
- For best results, use clear casting systems with sufficient processing time.
- For larger areas, test on a small sample; lighting conditions can significantly change the perception of the pearl.
Warning: Excessive amounts of alcohol ink can extend curing or degrade the mixture. Add drop by drop and check the reaction.
Practical tips
- For easy removal of castings, use silicone moulds (round moulds highlight concentric effects).
- For clean lines, drip just above the surface, for organic dissolving, drip from a greater height.
- Clean tools and splashes with isopropyl alcohol; work in a well-ventilated area.
