Resin paints

Resin colours (transparent dyes)

Epoxy resin colours are liquid dyes in diluted or concentrated form. They work transparently – the resin remains clear/transparent with a coloured tone. Diluted colours are ideal for small castings and jewellery, concentrated colours can handle larger volumes and precise shade mixing.

What it is and when to reach for them

  • Transparent dyes tint clear casting resin without losing transparency.
  • Suitable for jewellery, small decorations, coasters, paintings and large castings where you want to preserve depth and translucence.
  • Diluted colour = sensitive dosing for small volumes; concentrate = economical colouring for larger doses.

Dosage and mixing

  • Start with very little: typically 0.1–1 % of the weight of the mixed resin (A+B); increase as needed up to ~3 %.
  • Add the colour drop by drop to the already mixed clear resin and mix slowly for minimum bubbles.
  • You can mix shades together for your own palette; record the ratios for repeatability.

How to achieve crystal clarity

  • Under-colour rather than over – a small amount will preserve depth and translucence.
  • Pour thinner layers and let them partially harden if you need a stronger tone without clouding.
  • Avoid overheating with hot air – it can change the shade and introduce micro-bubbles.

Compatibility and use

  • Designed for clear epoxy casting systems with sufficient working time.
  • Can be combined with pearl/mica or fine glitter – perform a small test first.
  • For large castings, bear in mind that the layer thickness affects the perception of saturation (it appears darker in deeper sections).
Warning: Too much colour can reduce clarity and prolong/disrupt curing. Dose gradually and always test on a small sample to verify the shade and curing time.
