What are decorative letters and numbers suitable for?
Holographic letters and numbers allow you to create monograms, names, dates and short inscriptions in resin. Use them in jewellery beds, on coasters, key rings, gift decorations and children's motifs. The holographic effect highlights the inscription under a clear top coat and adds depth to the composition.
How to arrange inscriptions to stay exactly in place
- Prepare the base: a smooth, clean, degreased surface. If using a mould, first pour a very thin clear film.
- Allow the film to briefly gel (it will no longer run). Place the letters onto this 'sticky' layer using tweezers.
- For alignment, use vertical and horizontal guidelines (remove them in the next layer), or place them into a thin template.
- Once stabilised, add resin to the full height. The final top coat 1–2 mm will smooth the surface and protect the holographic effect.
Tip: Before the final pouring, check the spacing ('kerning') and axis of the inscription. Minor corrections can be made with a pin/needle while the layer is still in the gel phase.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Letters float: adhesive film is missing. Always place them into a thin adhesive layer and only add more after gelling.
- Smudges and smears: sticking self-adhesive letters to uncured resin. Only stick to a fully hardened, degreased surface.
- Crooked inscription: without auxiliary lines. Use weak guide lines or a thin template (they will be removed in the top coat).
- Surface is not smooth: top coat is too thin. We recommend 1–2 mm of clear coat and protection against dust during curing.
Pro tip: For self-adhesive letters, first stick them to a fully hardened surface, press firmly (squeeze out the air) and only then cover with clear resin. This keeps the edges clean and prevents them from peeling off.
Recommended clear resins for casting inscriptions
- Subglaso Rapid 10-5-220 – quick projects and coasters, thin layers, nice gloss.
- DEKORA 20-24-950 – universal clear resin for medium decorations and jewellery.
- Lente Portreto Rapid 3-8-3200 – paintings/pour-art, when you need a longer “open time” for precise setting.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How to keep the letters in one line?
Create fine auxiliary lines (pencil/thin tape) or use a low template. The guides disappear after applying the top coat.
Can I combine colours and sizes?
Yes, but keep a consistent line height and spacing. Combine holographic colours with a clear or subtly tinted background to make the inscription stand out.
Will the holographic effect be damaged by casting?
On the contrary, it will be enhanced. A clear top coat of 1–2 mm will create a “lens” that adds depth and shine to the inscription. Just ensure cleanliness and degreasing of the substrate before casting.
Are finished decorations suitable for contact with food?
Decorations with letters are intended for design use. If you are making coasters, keep them as decorative accessories away from direct contact with food.
