Metal embellishments for resin art

Metal elements will add detail, contrast and a spatial effect to your projects. In this category, you will mainly find metal clockwork gears (cogwheels – ideal for steampunk) and other resin embellishments in various shapes for jewellery, coasters, dishes, pictures and small DIY projects.

  • What you'll find here: clock wheels, gears, mini pendants and decorative shapes (hearts, keys, stars, leaves, filigrees, etc.).
  • Uses: jewellery beds (background/composition), resin coasters, jar lids, decorative panels and resin paintings.
  • Composition: layer in multiple thin layers – this creates depth and the metal beautifully "floats" in clear resin.
Tip: Lightly roughen and degrease the metal before casting (for better adhesion). For hollow parts (e.g. wheels), cast twice – first a thin "adhesive" film, then top up to full height after gelation to prevent the decorations from floating and forming bubbles at the edges.

Why choose metal embellishments for resin art?

Metal elements add detail, contrast and a spatial effect to resin projects. Metal clock wheels (steampunk look), mini pendants and decorative shapes (hearts, keys, stars, leaves, filigrees) are especially popular. They are suitable for jewellery beds, coasters, lid caps, decorative panels and resin paintings.

How to achieve a clean, bubble-free result

  • Metal preparation: lightly roughen the back (fine sandpaper) and degrease (isopropyl). This will improve adhesion.
  • First 'adhesive' film: pour a very thin layer of clear resin, place the decorations in it and let it gel slightly.
  • Layering: after gelation, fill to the full height. This prevents the metals from floating and bubbles from developing under the edges.
  • Temperature and mixing: mix slowly at room temperature; the surface can be briefly blown with warm air (carefully).
Tip: Sharp corners and edges of the metal may 'telegraph' to the surface. Seal them first with a thin film and only then make the final layer. For light compositions, a thin white or pearlescent undercoat works as a background.

Recommended clear resins by project type

Pro tip: Heavier metal parts may sink slightly. Reinforce the first layer to the gel phase and only then add volume. Tweezers and a pin are useful for precise positioning (easily removed after gelation).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can metal rust in resin?
The decorations are usually made of materials that resist corrosion. To be sure, always degrease the metal and completely seal it in resin (without access to moisture). For raw metals, a thin film primer helps.
How to prevent bubbles under the metal?
First, apply a very thin 'adhesive' layer into which you place the decorations, and only add more after gelation. You can pre-coat the edges with a brush with a thin layer of resin - it will push the air out of the gaps.
How to combine metal with colours and glitter?
Let the metal stand out on a clear or subtly tinted background. Build the effects in layers: bottom 'mist', metal in the middle, thin clear top coat on top for depth and shine.
Is the finished product suitable for contact with food?
Resin products are decorative. For direct contact with food, use only materials specifically designated for this purpose; standard decorations with metal elements are not intended for direct contact with food.
