Materials for imitations

Imitation materials (water effect)

Special W IMITA pastes are designed to create a realistic water effect in resin projects. Using a subtle milky tint or blue/azure shades, you can achieve natural ripples, depth transitions and "water mist" in coasters, jewellery, decorations and pour-art paintings.

  • Use: "water surface" backgrounds, depth enhancement, blurring/diffusion, marine motifs.
  • Working with the effect: layer in thin layers, combine clear and tinted parts for natural transitions and depth.
Tip: Start with a very small amount (dots/brush) and add gradually. The effect is noticeable even in a thin layer. For durability and shine, overlay with clear resin (top coat) at the end.

What W IMITA pastes can do (resin water effect)

W IMITA pastes make it easy to create realistic water surfaces and depth transitions in resin projects. Subtle milky shades add a foggy water effect, while blue tones add a natural colour to the sea/lake surface. Suitable for coasters, decorations, jewellery and pour-art paintings.

When to reach for which variant

  • Milky Light (XC925-31) – subtle fogging, coastal shallows, diffuse light.
  • Milky Cream (XC925-32) – warmer haze, sand/lagoon tuning.
  • Blue (XC925-33) – universal “lake/surface”, medium colour depth.
  • Azure (XC925-34) – fresh azure for clear water and sunny reflections.
  • Turquoise (XC925-35) – marine motif, tropical shallows and contrast with sand.
Tip: Start with a very small amount (dot with a brush/spatula) and layer. The effect is pronounced even in a thin layer – add gradually and let the surface “set” between steps.

Basic step-by-step procedure

  1. Prepare clear resin and a clean, degreased surface/mould.
  2. Apply a thin, clear film to level the surface (allow to gel briefly).
  3. Add W IMITA paste – a little at a time, creating transitions and 'ripples' (stippling, sweeping strokes).
  4. For depth of effect, work in layers: clear → tinted → clear (top coat 1–2 mm).
  5. Protect from dust and allow to harden according to the resin's recommendations.
Pro tip: For coasters, the workflow is 'clear base → W IMITA effects → clear top coat'. Always seal the edges with a thin, clear layer for better durability during use.

Recommended clear resins for overlaying the effect

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much paste should I use?
A little goes a long way – start with individual dots/thin strokes and add as needed. A thick layer can suppress clarity and prolong the hardening of the top coat.
Can I combine shades with each other?
Yes, combine in thin layers for smooth transitions (shallow → deeper water). Let it set briefly and only then add another layer.
How do I achieve 'depth' like a real surface?
Build the effect in layers: clear base, gently tinted milky layer, blue/azure accent, and finally a clear top coat. Layering creates a spatial impression and beautiful reflections.
Is the finished product suitable for contact with food?
Decorative projects are not intended for direct contact with food. If you are making coasters, stick to purely decorative use.
