What they are and how they work
Liquid pearlescent pigments are colouring concentrates enriched with mica/metallic particles. In clear casting resin, they create a pearlescent appearance with a subtle shimmer and depth.
Dosage and mixing
- Recommended amount: typically 1–5% (start with a small dose – the effect is significant).
- Shake well before use – the pearl may sediment.
- Mix slowly and thoroughly to minimise bubbles and achieve an even sheen.
When to reach for pearlescent pigments
- Jewellery and pendants – highlighting shape and depth without full coverage.
- Small castings and decorations – subtle metallic reflections without losing clarity.
- Surface accents – a thin "glaze" with a micro amount of pigment for extra shine.
Tips for appearance
- A darker base enhances the pearlescent and metallic hue.
- For a "milky" veil effect, leave part of the mixture clear and use the pearlescent pigment only locally.
- Layering thin coats will give you greater depth without clouding.
Compatibility and care
- Designed for clear epoxy casting systems with sufficient working time.
- Can be combined with other pigments (mica, glitters, colours); always perform a compatibility test.
- Clean the dropper and tools with isopropyl alcohol; work in a clean, dust-free environment.
Warning: Do not exceed the dosage – excess pigment may prolong curing and reduce clarity. Always test on a small sample.
