Types of Pigments
- Pastes – high concentration, opaque covering colours, suitable for surfaces and lines.
- Liquid Pigments – easy dropper dispensing, from transparent tones to rich coverage.
- Powders (mica/pearl, metallic, etc.) – effect of gloss and depth, mixed into a clear base.
- Effect – alcohol inks/3D diffusion/chameleon/wave, etc. for special visual effects.
Dosage and mixing
- Typical dosage: 1–5% (depending on the required saturation and type of pigment); max. 10% A+B.
- Add to the already mixed resin (A+B) and mix slowly – fewer bubbles, even dispersion.
- For powders, start with a pinch; for pastes/liquids, add drop by drop and check the saturation regularly.
What to expect
- Solid colour (pastes/liquids) – makes the casting resin opaque and creates full, rich colours.
- Pearl/mica – transparent to semi-transparent effect with a pearl sheen.
- Effect pigments – special structures (cells, lace, maps), colour shifts, holography, etc.
Tips for practice
- For an even colour, work in thinner layers and layer if necessary.
- A dark background enhances pearl/chameleon; clear zones add depth.
- Always do a small test (different pigments can affect viscosity and curing time).
Warning: Do not exceed the recommended dosage – excess pigment may prolong or disrupt curing and reduce the clarity of the final casting.
