Chameleon Powder Pigments for Resin

Chameleon powders bring intense, colour-changing effects to epoxy casting resin. Due to their intensity, very small amounts mixed into the compound are sufficient. Excellent for jewellery and decorations with an iridescent play of shades. Alternatively, you can coat the silicone mould with chameleon powder (with a fine brush) and then pour in black-tinted resin. Chameleon powders make the casting resin opaque.

How it works

The pigment consists of special particles with an interference/chameleon effect – changing colour depending on the angle of incidence of light and the viewing angle. They stand out best on a dark background (ideally black).

How to use

  • Mixing into resin – for surfaces with an all-over chameleon effect (opaque result).
  • Dry form wiping – lightly dust the inside of the silicone mould with a fine brush, then pour in black tinted resin for maximum colour shift.
  • Surface glaze – micro-quantity in a thin top coat and a clear cover over it to protect the effect.

Dosage and mixing

  • Start with very little (approx. 0.1–1% by weight); add in pinches – the effect is very pronounced.
  • Mix slowly into the already mixed resin (A+B) to avoid introducing unnecessary bubbles.
  • When working with a 'wiped' mould, work in a dust-free environment; gently tap off excess powder.

Tips for the best result

  • A dark/black background enhances the colour shift; lighter backgrounds give a gentler effect.
  • For long-lasting effect, seal the surface with a clear layer of resin.
  • Layering thin coats adds depth without excess pigment.
Warning: Excessive amounts of powder can prolong or disrupt curing and reduce surface quality. Protect airways (fine dust), work in a clean environment and keep doses small.
