What do sets usually include?
- Abrasive cutouts/sheets (various grit sizes P80–P3000)
- Abrasive sponges and pads for even pressure
- Felt/foam discs and polishing bobs
- Polishing paste (coarse/fine) and microfibre cloths
- Protective and cleaning aids (depending on the type of set)
Note: The specific composition is always stated in the product details; not every set contains all the items listed.
How to choose the right set
- Project type: jewellery and small mouldings vs. coasters and larger surfaces.
- Grinding method: manually (greater control) or mechanically (speed and consistency).
- Finish: 1-step polishing for a satin sheen, 2-step for a mirror effect.
Recommended procedure
- Align the surface with a coarser grit (e.g. P80–P240) depending on the level of unevenness.
- Gradually transition to finer grits (P400 → P800 → P1200 → P1500 → P2000/P3000).
- Ideally, sand under water and clean the surface between steps.
- Subsequently, polish with a coarser and then a fine paste to the desired shine.
Tip: For larger surfaces, check the flatness of the work surface and work dust-free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it necessary to sand underwater?
With resin, this significantly helps to reduce heating and micro-scratches; we recommend it for most steps.
Do the kits include polishing pastes?
Some do; the information is always listed on the product. Pastes can be purchased separately.
How to prevent dull patches after polishing?
Consistently maintain the gradual grit sequence without skipping a step, and complete sanding to at least P1500–P2000 before polishing.
