Product detailed description
Platinum silicone ASF 10SH for resin molds
ASF 10SH is a platinum (addition) cured silicone for making molds that have a long lifespan and hold their shape very well. After curing, a soft, flexible rubber is created with a hardness of around 10 Shore A, which allows for easy demolding of castings even with more intricate shapes.
The silicone is primarily intended for casting epoxy resin, or other systems compatible with platinum silicone molds (e.g., some polyester or polyurethane resins). Thanks to its low shrinkage during curing, it is suitable for molds where dimensional accuracy is important.
What is ASF 10SH suitable for?
- Silicone molds for jewelry – pendants, earrings, rings, small decorations,
- Molds for coasters and small trays – round, square, and organic shapes,
- Decorative molds – small sculptures, decorative plates, resin structures,
- Molds for repeated casting from epoxy resin and other suitable materials.
Thanks to its hardness of approx. 10 Shore A, the silicone is sufficiently soft and flexible after curing, so the mold can be easily "inverted" even from shapes with undercuts, yet it holds its shape and does not deform during normal use.
How is ASF 10SH silicone used?
- prepare the model (master) you want to cast – dry, clean, free of dust and grease,
- measure component A and B in a ratio of 100 : 100 by weight,
- mix thoroughly, including the sides and bottom of the container, until the mixture is homogeneous,
- pour in a thin stream from a height – this will help reduce bubbles,
- allow to cure at room temperature (approx. 23 °C) – usually 6–12 hours depending on the layer thickness.
For very fine details and larger molds, it is ideal to use a vacuum chamber or a pressure vessel, but for common hobby projects with resin, it is possible to work without them.
What to watch out for
- platinum (addition) silicones can be sensitive to contact with materials containing sulfur compounds, some rubbers, fresh acrylates, or certain types of plasticine – they can slow down or completely stop curing,
- before casting a larger mold, we always recommend doing a small compatibility test with the model and materials used,
- When casting epoxy resin into a new mold, let it air out for several hours to a day after demolding before using it to its full potential.
ASF 10SH is a great choice if you need a versatile silicone for resin casting molds – from jewelry and coasters to smaller decorations, where you'll appreciate the combination of flexibility, precision, and reasonable curing time.
