Product detailed description
What is stabilised lichen (reindeer moss)
Stabilised reindeer moss is a 100% natural material where the natural moisture has been gently replaced with a stabilising component. Thanks to this, it retains its softness, flexibility and fresh 'living' appearance for a very long time – without watering and without direct light. The light shade looks delicate and airy, beautifully contrasting with wood, concrete and epoxy resin.
Typical uses in resin projects
- Moss pictures and panels – natural decor for living rooms, studies and commercial spaces.
- Designer clocks and logos – a light, fresh colour accent with a 3D structure.
- Additional accents – frames, inscriptions and compositions where moss creates a natural counterpoint to epoxy surfaces.
Appearance, colour and natural variability
Each package contains natural tufts with subtle differences in the size of the "heads", density and saturation. This variability is desirable – the resulting decor looks authentic and natural. Before installation, spread the tufts out 'dry' and adjust the directions and transitions of shades.
Care and long-term appearance
- No watering or spraying – it maintains its appearance on its own, normal room humidity is sufficient.
- Indoor placement – away from direct bright sunlight and sources of radiant heat.
- Cleaning – gently blow off dust or wipe with a soft brush.
Placement and limits
The lichen is intended exclusively for indoor use. In resin projects, it's generally recommended not to embed it in epoxy to maintain its softness and colourfastness; it serves as a natural contrast alongside epoxy components.
Origin and careful harvesting
The material comes from Scandinavia and is subject to regulated ecological harvesting with respect for nature conservation. It is dyed and stabilised, intended for decorative purposes.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the light shade retain its colour?
Stabilisation helps to preserve a fresh appearance and suppleness. Avoid direct, harsh sunlight and high radiant heat to help the colour last as long as possible.
Can I cover the lichen with epoxy resin?
We do not recommend it. Embedding would reduce its softness and could alter the shade. It is used in projects as a natural element alongside epoxy surfaces, not underneath the casting.
Is it suitable for bathrooms?
Yes, it thrives in higher humidity. Just don't place it in direct contact with water or steam from the immediate vicinity of the shower.
Is it suitable for outdoor use?
No. Stabilised mosses are intended for indoor use – outdoors, their lifespan and colourfastness are significantly reduced.
Does the lichen have an odour or does it release colour?
It doesn't smell or stain the surrounding area under normal use. Handle in a clean environment and avoid rubbing against textiles during installation.
How to store leftover moss correctly?
Store in a dry place, away from sunlight, in a resealable bag or box. Do not compress - this will preserve the structure and flexibility of the tufts.
It arrived compressed - what should I do?
It may become compressed during transport. Let it 'breathe' freely, and gently fluff with your fingers for full volume when installing.
