How does glow powder work?
Photoluminescent pigment (formerly known as 'phosphor' powder) is an activated alkaline earth aluminate with rare elements. When illuminated, it absorbs light energy, stores it, and then emits it for several hours.
How long does it glow?
It depends on the quality of the pigment, the length and intensity of charging, and the amount of pigment in the material. Pigments have a lifespan of thousands of charging cycles and more than 20 years of normal use.
How to 'charge' the pigment
Ordinary daylight or artificial lighting is sufficient. The longer and more intense the illumination, the longer and more pronounced the afterglow.
Grain size and dosage
- Grain size: fine, approximately 5–75 µm (suitable for epoxy casting resins).
- Recommended amount for casting resin: 5–10% depending on the desired brightness and afterglow duration.
Health aspects
Glow powder is harmless to humans and the environment. It contains no toxic or radioactive elements.
Tips for use
- For a consistent effect, mix thoroughly and work in clear casting resin.
- For jewellery and detailed castings, opt for a finer fraction of pigment.
- For paintings and tabletops, charge the finished product before presentation (light, UV lamps, etc.).
